Is an Independent Rear End better than solid axle?

There is a lot of people who will tell you that an independent rear is better. I have a problem with that. What they do not tell you is all the additional money you will have to spend on upgrading an independent rear end to take all the power that most Cobra replicas run today. The main problem is that most can not use a trailing arm from the frame back to the lower yoke. You have to rely on the yoke itself to take all the stress. I know several people who have spent $4000 - $6000 on upgrading their Jag rear end, including titanium half shafts, backing plates, housings and more. But you know what? They still broke, especially in drag racing when they tried to run slick tires.

To top it off, they have not out handled a West Coast car!
